Automation Domains

Mobile service robots

Mobile service robots perform a variety of tasks. They transport goods, monitor environments, clean surfaces, guide customers and employees, conduct experiments in laboratories, control product storage and perform repairs. All of these applications are related, in part, to their autonomous driving, environmental awareness and decision-making technologies. Depending on the cost of the robot, they often share a variety of hardware components. We have experience in complete series development of mobile service robots with proven market performance and time-line reliability. Combining complex actuation systems and a variety of tools with the autonomous driving system to expand the robot's range of tasks is becoming increasingly feasible. Connectivity often plays a central role in connecting fleets, infrastructure and operators in a seamless system. Our specialty is the realization of concrete robot applications based on our experience with SW/HW co-design, architectures and algorithms. We do not just provide a platform, we work with you to design the entire application and get it running.

Self-driving vehicles

Self-driving vehicles share many technological similarities with mobile service robots, but many of requirements are on a higher level of complexity. Velocities and risks are much higher for many applications, putting significantly increased strain on the performance of sensors, networks, computation and reliability of the execution. The increased performance and reliability requirements are reflected in regulation, code quality and testing. We have contributed to research, pre-series and series development for major parts of the autonomous driving functions or advanced driver assistance systems. This includes work on perception and motion planning for parking, parking-garage navigation, lane keeping, emergency braking, adaptive cruised control, city driving and highway driving. Our solutions have been deployed on vehicle sensors, as well as on vehicle ECUs and central computers. The big advantage we offer here is our familiarity with autonomous driving and the modules related to system architecture. That insight, combined with our series development experience and great flexibility, makes us an ideal partner for solving challenges in the development.

Medical technology

Currently, the volume of available products and therapies far exceeds what even the experts can keep track of. There are hundreds of thousands of medical products that could be recommended if and when appropriate, but less and less time for physicians and pharmacists to study the relevant medical cases. This reflects the strong need for recommendation systems based on artificial intelligence. Similarly, the number of available therapies continues to increase in both variety and regulatory complexity. Because the available medical staff is unable to handle peak workloads, there is an increasing need for (semi-) automated therapy systems that could the medical staff could use. We have developed some of the leading recommendation and automation systems, applying our experience in solving problems with self-driving cars to the medical domain. We can bring our practical experience of successfully applying cutting-edge AI approaches to medical automation challenges, as well as our experience of integrating new AI processes into medical facilities.

Insurance technology

AI-based systems in insurance technology undoubtedly have the potential to increase efficiency and already make better decisions than humans in some cases. But there are also challenges that come with the implementation of AI technologies.
One of the main problems is data selection and quality. Most AI systems need large amounts of data to make reliable predictions. However, if the quality of the data is insufficient, the results may be distorted. Another problem is the transparency of AI systems. Many companies cannot explain how their AI systems arrive at certain decisions. This can lead to consumers losing trust in the company. Especially in the finance and insurance sector, this is an absolute "showstopper".
Innovative approaches are needed to solve these problems. We support your company in improving its data infrastructure to ensure that the data quality is right. Furthermore, we have the necessary know-how to improve the transparency of your AI systems by mapping functionality as well as the decision-making process via comprehensible AI models. We also offer you the possibility to establish hybrid processes, whereby you can also include human expertise in your processes to ensure that the AI decisions are plausible and correct.
Instead of having all decisions made by a central AI system, decisions can be made by several smaller AI systems that are specialised in certain tasks, thanks to our modular construction kit. These systems can then communicate with each other and make decisions together.
All in all, your specific use case and your company are at the centre of our attention. The challenges associated with the implementation of AI technologies in insurance technology must be recognised individually and proactively adapted solutions sought. This is the only way to fully exploit the potential of AI systems and improve customer service, while at the same time strengthening trust in your company.

AI & general automation systems

The thing that all areas have in common is a strong trend towards AI automation. Automation via AI is the most necessary, but at the same time it is one of the most complex, expensive and risky development directions. The need for automation is increasing in every sectors. Regulatory requirements exacerbate this effort, especially in the area of sales to all relevant markets. End customers expect individuality. Price competition and the speed of competitive development are increasing. We combine our IT and automation know-how with the expertise of our partners to jointly develop the next generation of automation solutions. With STTech, we have built a highly effective research transfer and development team to reliably and quickly enable the business cases you want automated.
